Where does this REALTOR go for a getaway?

Saturday, March 1st, 2014

So I decided to take a nice weekend get away and enjoy some of what this beautiful province has to offer. After much contemplation of where to spend my limited free time, I decided on one of my favourite places, Banff Alberta. I have been visiting Banff for most of my life and it is always a very welcome getaway from the busy city life. Banff has many amenities that I enjoy taking part in, a few of my favourites are as follows:

Banff Upper Hot Springs

The Hot Springs are one of nine naturally occurring hot springs in the Banff area, flowing from the Sulphur Mountain Thrust Fault. The pool is kept at a warm 38°C (100°F), year round and offer breathtaking views of Mount Rundle. Open to the public they are a great place to sit and relax and let go of the pressures of city life, offering a family friendly, low cost, must see stop in the town of Banff Alberta.

The Banff Grizzly House

This unique dinning experience is one to be savoured. This restaurant is in my top ten restaurants all of Alberta, offering an completely unique experience. Their fondue dinners do take up a good portion of the day so make sure to book early in the evening and leave lots of time to enjoy the experience. Offering exotic meats such as, Bison, Alligator, Snake, Emu, Frogs legs,Venison for those interested in trying something different. For those less adventurous, as myself, the Chicken and Beef is also an excellent choice. The four course meal, while a bit pricy was defiantly worth the investment. The proprietor of this fine establishment (Peter Steiner), is often found on the patio smoking his pipe and, was more then happy to fill this Realtor in on the more colourful history of The Grizzly House.

Wild Bill’s Legendary Saloon

If your looking for good night life, Wild Bill’s, is a fun country themed night club, featuring live bands most weekend nights. Expect to pay cover as this happens to be a popular night spot for both the locals and tourist alike. Their large dance floor is a great place to let lose and show your abilities, or lack thereof.

Bear Street Tavern

While out touring the town of banff, I happen to come across, The Bear Street Tavern, this wonderful establishment is rumoured to have some of the best pizza in all of banff. A busy spot you might have to wait a few minutes to get in but the wait is worth it. Offering a unique twist in their drink menu, they have bowls of ‘adult’ punch, after seeing one go out to the table next to us we had to try one. The punch bowls are defiantly made for sharing but part of the beauty of Banff is that most everything is with in walking distance, so you can leave the car at the hotel and enjoy yourself responsibly.

Irwin’s Mountain Inn

This pet friendly hotel, was a welcome place to rest my head at the end of an eventful Banff day. It offers quality rooms at reasonable rates. They also are very accommodating to pets. My two kitties enjoyed their spacious room, and the cleaning staff was more than happy to interact with them. Located on Banff Ave. this hotel is only a short few minutes walking distance from the heart of Banff. There are plenty of shops and tourist locations to enjoy a nice relaxing weekend getaway. Banff is a four seasons playground offering year round activities.

At only four and a half hours from Edmonton it’s plenty close for a weekend get away. With breathtaking views, crisp mountain air this town is full of happy residents and tourists. It has everything you need to getaway from the fast paced life of Edmonton or where ever else you’re from. Banff truly is one of my favourite places to visit and the fact that I was able to include my kitties on this fantastic trip with me made it so much more special.

And that’s the cats’ meow!
